NamPower Abrasive Disc Brushes
The highest quality professional deburring, edge blending and surface finishing tools on the market. Ceramic and silicon carbide abrasive nylon filaments deliver maximum deburring rate and ideal surface quality.
- Dot Style and Turbine Style brush options
- 6" (150mm) and 8" (200mm) diameter options
- 18mm and 38mm filament lengths
- CNC, transfer machine and robotics compatible
- 360-degree surface processing — works in both directions
Overview
NamPower Disc Brushes
NamPower disc brushes consist of flexible abrasive nylon filaments bonded to a fiber-reinforced thermoplastic base. The unique combination of ceramic and silicon carbide delivers maximum deburring rate and ideal surface quality simultaneously. Manufactured for use on semi-automatic and fully automatic machines (NC, CNC and robotic applications).
- Reliable, consistent and cost-effective results
- High-density, balanced and shatter-proof construction
- Superior alternative to wire brushes and non-woven abrasive brushes
- Used for turbine blades, steel gears, machine parts and shaft finishing
Brush Selection
Brush Type Selection
Two main brush types are available. Choosing the right type for your application is critical for performance.
| Brush Type | Application Area | Penetration Depth |
|---|---|---|
| Dot Style | General-purpose deburring, surface finishing, light applications. Extra flexibility — small holes and tight areas. | 0.381 – 3.962 mm |
| Turbine Style | Medium and heavy deburring. High-density structure — shorter cycle time, longer tool life. | 0.177 – 2.362 mm |
Technical Data
Grit Selection Table
Grit selection depends on the starting surface quality and desired result. The general rule is to use the coarsest grit that achieves the desired surface quality.
| Grit | Starting Ra Value |
|---|---|
| 80 | 1.4 – 1.5 |
| 120 | 1.0 – 1.4 |
| 180 | 0.7 – 1.0 |
| 320 | 0.6 – 0.7 |
Brush Diameter
Brush Diameter Selection and Part Coverage
The ideal brush should be 70mm larger than the workpiece. The brush centerline should be aligned so it extends at least 35mm past the target edge. NamPower disc brushes are available in standard 6 inch (150mm) and 8 inch (200mm) diameters.
Cutting Depth
Filament Diameter and Cutting Depth
| Filament Diameter / Grit | 152mm Disc Brush (mm) | 203mm Disc Brush (mm) |
|---|---|---|
| 0.045 / 500 | 3.81 | 3.81 |
| 0.55 / 320 | 3.81 | 3.81 |
| 0.55 / 120 | 3.81 | 3.81 |
| 0.88 / 180 | 1.90 | 1.90 |
| 1.01 / 80 | 1.90 | 1.90 |
| 1.01 / 120 | 1.90 | 1.90 |
Apply up to 10% of available filament length for fine filament brushes and up to 5% for thick filament brushes.
Processing Parameters
Feed Rate by Material
| Material | Feed Rate |
|---|---|
| Non-ferrous metals | 2,032 m/min |
| Cast iron | 1,524 m/min |
| Mild steel and cast iron | 1,270 m/min |
| Stainless and alloy steels | 0.762 m/min |
| Titanium and high nickel alloys | 0.762 m/min |
Contoured surfaces should be processed at lower speeds and higher pressure than flat surfaces.
RPM Setting
RPM Recommendations
Correct RPM setting is critical to prevent overheating and nylon smearing on the surface. The maximum RPM printed on the brush is not the appropriate operating speed.
- Dry applications: Stay below 2,500 rpm
- Wet applications: Stay below 3,500 rpm
- A 150mm brush at 1,400 rpm is more effective than at 2,800 rpm
- Excessive speed, especially on long filament brushes, causes filament bending and bouncing
